Senators Last Meeting vs. Lightning: 5-2 win on Oct 15

Last Meeting: Brady scores twice to lead Sens to victory over Lightning 5-2. Parker Kelly played his 100th game, Tarasenko scored his 1st goal with the Sens, and Joonas Korpisalo recorded his 1st victory in a Senators uniform.

Today’s Meeting: A depleted Senators lineup will be facing the Tampa Bay Lightning team at the Canadian Tire Centre in their first rematch of the season. With recent injuries to Ridley Greig and Mark Kastelic, the Senators called up Roby Jarventie and Zack MacEwen from the Belleville Senators. This game will mark D.J. Smith’s 300th game behind the club’s bench.

The Lightning have lost their last two games, recently suffering a 4-2 loss to the Columbus Blue Jackets. Both teams are in the bottom of the Atlantic division and will be looking for an opportunity to grab some valuable points. Statistically they rank very closely to each other with the exception of special teams, which the Lightning’s have a decided edge both on power play and penalty killing.

Senators suffer more injuries and lose to Kings 3-2

On Canadian Forces Night, the Ottawa Senators faced a tough Los Angeles Kings team which remained undefeated on the road. The Senators were hampered with only 10 forwards after Ridly Greig and Mark Kastelic suffered injuries in the game and did not return. D.J. Smith announced during the post game conference that the injured players would be evaluated shortly but are doubtful for the next few games.

🎓 Roger Neilson – Hall of Famer
In 2002, Ottawa Senators assistant coach Roger Neilson was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in the Builders category.  Roger Neilson previously coached for the Toronto Maple Leafs, Buffalo Sabres, Vancouver Canucks, Los Angeles Kings, New York Rangers, Florida Panthers, Philadelphia Flyers and Ottawa Senators.   The Senators appointed assistant coach Roger Neilson as head coach for the club’s final 2 games of the season in 2002 (April 11 and April 13), allowing Neilson to become the 9th coach to reach the 1,000 game plateau as an NHL head coach.

🏒 Max Lajoie breaks defenceman record
In 2018, Max Lajoie became the first defenceman in Senators franchise history to record at least five goals through his first 14 career games when he scored in the Senators’ 4-3 overtime loss vs. Tampa Bay.

🎂🥳 Max Lajoie Birthday
Speaking of Max Lajoie, here’s to wishing him an early happy birthday for his 26th birthday tomorrow.  The Quebec City native was drafted in 2016 by the Ottawa Senators’ in the 5th round – 133rd overall.  Lajoie played two seasons with the Senators (2018-20) in 62 games recording 7 goals, 8 assists for 15 points.  He was traded to Carolina by Ottawa on January 12, 2021 for Clark Bishop.  Lajoie signed as a free agent with Toronto on July 1, 2023.


PLAYER profile – Ridly Greig #71 C

Drafted in 2020 during the 1st round – 28th overall by Ottawa, the Lethbridge, Alberta native, is enjoying his second year in the NHL and with the Senators.   Greig became 1 of 25 players in Ottawa Senators history to record a point in their NHL debut when he faced the New York Islanders on January 25, 2023.

Last year, Greig played 20 games with the Senators, achieving 9 points by scoring twice and recording 7 assists.  Ridly is the son of Mark Greig who played 9 seasons in the NHL for the Hartford Whalers, Toronto Maple Leafs, Calgary Flames and Philadelphia Flyers.
