Season Highlights

Alexei Yashin returned to the Ottawa Senators after being absent the previous season due to a contract dispute. Yashin was not restored to the team captain, leaving the captaincy with Daniel Alfredsson. After the season, Yashin was traded to the New York Islanders for Zdeno Chara, Bill Muckalt, and the Islander’s 1st round draft pick (2nd overall) which the Senators used to draft Jason Spezza. Islanders General Manager Mike Milbury promptly signed Yashin to a 10-year/$87.5 million contract.
