Last Time vs. Sens trounce Flyers in season opener 5-2

Last Time: The Ottawa Senators celebrated Claude Giroux achieving 1,000 points last year. Brady Tkachuk and Jakob Chychryn scored twice while Jake Sanderson added a goal to achieve a 5-2 win at home.

Game Time: The Ottawa Senators lost to the Winnipeg Jets in overtime yesterday while the Philadelphia Flyers lost to the Colorado Avalanche 7-4. Both teams are looking to edge out a victory tonight after they each played last night! Shane Pinto is expected to make his season debut after serving his 41 game suspension.

Statistically, the Flyers have one of the best penalty kills in the NHL however they are the polar opposites when it comes to the power play. Ottawa scores more goals on average per game but also allows more goals than the Flyers.

Senators lose in overtime against the Jets 2-1

It may have been Ottawa’s best defensive game that brought a 1-1 tie into overtime where the Jets capitalized on a key mistake to score the game winner. Parker Kelly scored his 6th goal of the season.

Quick Sens Highlights:

  • Winnipeg opened up the scoring in the 2nd period to take the lead 1-0.
  • Parker Kelly scored his 6th of the season in the 3rd period, assisted by the returning Josh Norris and Vladimir Tarasenko to tie the game 1-1.
  • Winnipeg scored 4:14 in overtime to etch out 2 points, giving Ottawa an overtime loss.
  • Joonas Korpisalo took the loss by making 27 saves on 29 shots for 2.00 GAA and .931 SV%.
