GAME DAY REPORT

Sens Vs Flyers

Last time: Senators staged a comeback to win on the road against Flyers 5-3. Philadelphia jumped onto a quick start, scoring 2 goals but Ottawa did something they have struggled to do in the past, staged a successful comeback, scoring four unanswered goals to secure the victory.

Game Day: Ottawa is facing yet another back-to-back game and has a sour taste in their mouth after facing defeat by the lowly Coyotes yesterday. Senators have defeated the Flyers twice this season and would love to sweep them tonight and end their losing streak before embarking on a California road trip.

Statistically, the Flyers boast the worst power play in the NHL, however Ottawa has one of the worst penalty kills, so special teams may play a huge factor in the game. Flyers sits bottom 3rd in the league in average scores per game but Ottawa sits near the bottom in the league in goals allowed. This might be another high scoring affair!

Arizona ends losing streak against Senators 5-3

If you want to end a losing streak, then look no further than a match up against the Ottawa Senators. All season long, teams with losing streaks have faced Ottawa only to win and it was not different during Country Night at the Canadian Tire Centre. Ottawa started with a familiar pattern of being scored against in the first 10 minutes of the opening period. Despite mounting a comeback to tie the game, Ottawa faltered and faced another defeat.

by the numbers – jersey # 12

Controversy with number #12? For long-time Senators fans, number #12 is well remembered for blue-eyed Mike Fisher who wore the number from 2000 to 2011. After his trade to Nashville, jersey number #12 remained unmanned until 7 years later when Marian Gaborik wore the jersey.

Shane Pinto took up #12 during the 2021-22 season, however conceded the jersey to newly acquired Alex DeBrincat during the 2022-23 season. So what’s the so-called controversy?

Upon Alex DeBrincat’s departure from the Senators, one would think the jersey number would return to Shane Pinto however, you would be wrong! Since Shane Pinto was an unsigned restricted free agent (and subsequently suspended for 41-games), Mark Kastelic swooped in to take jersey #12. When Shane Pinto returned in January, he returned to his previous number, jersey #57.

Here is a partial list of Senator players who wore jersey #12:

  • Pat Falloon (1997-98)
  • Mike Fisher (1999-00 to 2010-11)
  • Marian Gabork (2017-18)
  • Shane Pinto (2021-22)
  • Alex DeBrincat (2022-23)
