Season Highlights

The Ottawa Senators finished the seasons with over 100 points again and would meet the Toronto Maple Leafs in the first round of the playoffs, losing the series 4-3. Ottawa would fire Head Coach Jacques Martin after the playoff round. On June 21, 2003, Assistant Coach Roger Neilson died after 4 years of battling cancer. The Senators would wear a patch on their jerseys with an illustration of his signature and a necktie. The symbol became associated with “Roger’s House”, a residence for the use of families with a family member battling cancer while in hospital. On August 26, 2003, Eugene Melnyk purchased the Ottawa Senators to bring financial stability.
