Season Highlights

The regular season was reduced from it’s usual 82 games to 48 due to an NHL lockout, resulting in a shortened season.

This marked the last year of the Daniel Alfredsson era, before he signed with the Detroit Red Wings the following season. Alfredsson had served as Senators’ team captain since 1999 and is believed to be the greatest Senator of all-time.

The Senators traded Nick Foligno to Columbus for Marc Methot to bolster the defense but the core group remained unchanged. The Senators were hampered by injuries throughout the season with the following players requiring surgery; Jason Spezza – herniated disc, Milan Michalek – arthroscopic surgery on right knee, Jared Cowen – hip surgery and Erik Karlsson – Achilles tendon cut.

Despite the rash of injuries, the Senators persevered and made the playoffs, earning the moniker Pesky Sens.
