A Look Back – 2023-2024

This is the final installment of our “A Look Back” series, this time focusing on some honorable mentions. Two players who remain with the Senators while two prospects that ended up leaving the Senators during the off-season.

Zach MacEwen – He played 30 games for the Senators last year, his lowest number in the last 4 seasons. He recorded 1 goal and 2 assists for 3 points, all low numbers compared to the past 3 seasons. While he was a part-time player last year, he looks to have cracked the line-up this year on the 4th line.

Matthew Highmore – This centerman played only 7 games with the Senators last season, contributing 2 assists for 2 points. He played an active role during the preseason and was set to make the lineup when he was sidelined with an injury.

Egor Sokolov – The left-winger had enjoyed success with the Belleville Senators and was called up to the big club to play 5 games last season. He scored his 1st NHL goal and recorded his 1st NHL assist last year, for 2 points. Sokolov also played 8 games the previous year but failed to record any points. On July 3rd, Sokolov was traded to the Utah HC for Jan Jenik.

Roby Jarvartie – Called to the big-club last year, Javartie played 7 games recording his 1st NHL assist. On July 15th, he was traded to the Edmonton Oilers, along with a 4th round pick in exchange for  Xavier Bourgault and Jake Chiasson.

ON THIS DAY IN SENS HISTORY

In 2010, with his 8th career hat-trick, Daniel Alfredsson became the 75th player in league history and first Senator to reach 1,000 career points in a 4-2 win at Buffalo’s HSBC Arena.  Playing his 1,009th NHL game, Alfredsson recorded two power-play goals and one into an empty net to reach the milestone.

In 2016, with his goal against the Tampa Bay Lightning in Ottawa’s 4-1 home loss, Chris Neil became the first player in Senators franchise history to record at least one goal in 15 consecutive seasons for the club.

In 2022, Shane Pinto recorded a goal in a 4th consecutive contest to become the first rookie in franchise history to score 4 goals in at least five consecutive games.  The streak marked the longest for any NHL rookie since Nashville’s Filip Forsberg scored in 6 consecutive games during the 2014-15 season.

In that same game, Brady Tkachuk registered his 200th point of his NHL career, a goal in a win against the Arizona Coyotes.
