GAME DAY REPORT

Senators vs. Golden Knights

Last season: The Senators faced the Vegas Golden Knights twice last season to tie the series. It started on December 17th with the Golden Knights extending the Senators losing streak to 4 games with a 6-3 defeat. This is something the Senators are very much hoping to avoid tonight! They won their next encounter on February 24th with a 4-3 shootout win, to squeak a victory out of Vegas.

Game Day: Ottawa has faced challenges recently and they need a full 60-minute performance from the team to show it’s fan base they can win at home. Meanwhile, Vegas fell 3-0 to the Leafs last night, in a moment very reminiscent of Oilers being shutout by Montreal before facing Ottawa. Will Vegas walk over the Senators like the Oilers did?

PLAYER PROFILE – David Perron

David Perron was drafted in the 1st round – 26th overall by the St-Louis Blues in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft. The Sherbrooke, QC native started his career with the Blues, playing six seasons with them before being traded on July 10, 2013 to Edmonton along with a 3rd round pick for Magnus Paajarvi, Edmonton’s 2nd round pick in the 2014 NHL Draft and a 4th round pick in the 2015 NHL Draft.

After playing 1 & 1/2 seasons with the Oilers, Perron was traded again, this time to Pittsburgh, for Rob Klinkhammer and the Penguins’ 1st round pick in the 2015 NHL Draft. In 2016, David re-signed with his original club, the St. Louis Blues, playing all 82 games with them however, the Blues failed to protect him during the expansion draft and the Vegas Golden Knights selected him. That opportunity paid off as David Perron won the Stanley Cup in 2019 with the Blues!

ON THIS DAY IN SENATORS HISTORY

🎂Happy Birthday Ben Bishop 🥳
Bishop is celebrating his 38th birthday!  The Denver, CO native was traded to Ottawa on February 26, 2012 by the St. Louis Blues for Ottawa’s 2nd-round pick in the 2013 NHL Draft.  He played 10 games during the 2011-12 season recording 3 wins and 3 loses before playing 13 games the following season with 8 wins and 5 losses.  He was later traded by Ottawa to Tampa Bay for Cory Conacher and Philadelphia’s 4th round pick in the 2013 NHL Draft.  Bishop played in Tampa Bay for 4 seasons making a brief stop in LA before ending his career with the Dallas Stars.

In 1990, Kanata urged fans to flick off their lights in Operation Blackout to show support for the proposed Ottawa Senators team. Remarkably, an estimated 134,000 do so.

In 1995, the Ottawa Senators named Dave Allison as their new head coach, replacing Rick Bowness.  He coached 25 games in the 1995-96 seasons, recording a record of 2-22-1 before being replaced by Jacques Martin.

In 2016, Matt Puempel was placed on waivers and was claimed by the NY Rangers. Puempel was drafted in the 1st round – 24th overall by the Senators in 2011.  He had played 13 games for the club in the 2014-15 season recording 2 goals and 1 assist.  The following year, he played 26 games with the Sens recording the same output before playing 13 games with the club during the 2016-17 seasons, without any points.   Once New York picked him off waivers, Puempel played 27 games for the Rangers scoring 6 goals and 3 assists for 9 points.  He was traded to Detroit the following year, for Ryan Sproul and played only 8 games with the Red Wings during the 2018-19 seasons, where he recorded 1 goal.
