ON THE BENCH
Dave Cameron (2014-2016)
Dave Cameron started his Head Coaching career with the Detroit Falcons of the Colonial Hockey League from 1995 to 1997, before moving to the Ontario Hockey League to coach the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds from 1997 to 1999. Cameron moved to the AHL, coaching the St. John’s Maple Leafs as Assistant Coach to Al MacAdams in the 1999-2000 season before returning to the OHL as Head Coach of the Toronto St. Michael’s Majors from 2000 to 2004.
After four seasons with the OHL, Cameron became Head Coach of the AHL Binghamton Senators from 2004 to 2007. Unfortunately, many Binghamton players were promoted to the Ottawa Senators resulting in the Binghamton team having a poor record and missing the playoffs. Binghamton fans regularly chanted for Cameron’s firing during the 2006-07 season!
After three years in the AHL, Cameron returned to the OHL to coach the Mississauga St. Michael’s Majors from 2007 to 2011. In 2011, Cameron joined the staff of Paul MacLean with the Ottawa Senators as Assistant Coach. Cameron became the Senator’s Head Coach in December 2014 after General Manager Bryan Murray announced MacLean’s firing on December 8, making Cameron the 5th Head Coach for the Senators since June 2007.
In 55 games during the 2014-15 season, the Senators finished with a record of 32-15-8, ending 4th in the Atlantic division and making the playoffs. They lost to the Montreal Canadiens in the first round in game 6. The following season, the Senators had a record of 38-35-9, finished 5th in the Atlantic division and missed the playoffs. On April 10, 2016, Bryan Murray announced his resignation as General Manager of the Senators with Assistant GM Pierre Dorion replacing him. Two days later, Dave Cameron was fired and ultimately replaced by Guy Boucher.
On July 6, 2016, Dave Cameron was hired as Assistant Coach of the Calgary Flames joining Glen Gulutzan’s staff until Glen’s firing on April 17, 2018. In May 2018, Cameron became the Head Coach of the Vienna Capitals of the Austrian Erste Bank Eishockey Liga from 2018 to 2021.
Since 2021, Dave Cameron has been Head Coach of the OHL Ottawa 67’s, the highlight being the 2022-23 season when the team finished 1st in the East losing only 12 games during the 68 game season.
