A Devil of a Brawl

The New York Rangers and New Jersey Devils were quick to choose violence during Wednesday’s matchup, engaging in an all-out fight that saw all but two players ejected as soon as the game opened. Eight players were assessed fighting majors and ejected during the line brawl, which took place right after the puck drop at Madison Square Garden.

Rule 46.7 states Fighting After the Original Altercation – A game misconduct penalty shall be imposed on any player who is assessed a major penalty for fighting after the original altercation has started. Notwithstanding this rule, at the discretion of the Referee, the automatic game misconduct penalty may be waived for a player in the altercation if the opposing player was clearly the instigator of the altercation.

Jimmy Vesey and Curtis Lazar were the only skaters not ejected because officials determined that their bout was the first to begin.

GAME DAY REPORT

Senators vs. Devils

Last time: On December 29th, the Senators lost a game dominated primarly by the Devils 6-2. Ottawa had defeated Pittsburgh and Toronto previously and was hoping they had turn the corner but Devils crushed those hopes.

Then, on March 23rd, Ottawa had some revenge when they ended two infamous records in their 5-2 victory. They won their first game in regulation in 15 games and also scored more than 5 goals for the 20th time during the season.

Game Day: The series is tied 1-1, Ottawa and Devils are both out of the playoffs so they are playing for honor. Both teams will try to claim the series victory as they have each suffered recent losses.

Game recap – Apr 4 – sens vs. Panthers

Senators are decimated by Panthers 6-0 at home

In a bowling shoe ugly game, the Panthers made mince meat of the Senators. Scoring quickly and decisively, the Senators never had a chance against a playoff bound team.

Quick Sens Highlights:

  • The Panthers scored twice in 1:37 of the 1st period to set the tone of the game.
  • Another two quick goals within 5 minutes of the 2nd period was enough to chase Korpisalo out of the net after having faced 17 shots. Panthers followed it up with a goal at the end of the period on Forsberg for a commanding 5-0 lead.
  • Panthers added one final goal early in the 3rd period to win the game 6-0, another shutout performance for Florida over Ottawa this season.
  • Joonas Korpisalo took the loss, making 13 saves on 17 shots for 4.00 GA and a .765 SV%.

🏆 Ottawa Senators Wins Presidents Trophy
In 2003, with a 52-21-8-1 record and 113 points – both all-time team highs – the Senators become the first Canadian team since the 1988-89 Calgary Flames to capture the President’s Trophy as the NHL’s regular-season champs. Marian Hossa finishes the season with 45 goals, setting a new team record.

In 2010, with his appearance against the Panthers in Florida, Daniel Alfredsson became the first Senators player to play all 1,000 career NHL games with Ottawa.

🧹 Senators Sweeps Boston
In 2017, Kyle Turris scored the shootout winner to lift the Senators to a 2-1 win over the Boston Bruins at TD Garden. The victory saw Ottawa record a 6th consecutive win against Boston for the first time and helped the club register a regular-season series sweep of the Bruins for the first time in 24 attempts.
