the devil is in the details
The source of the proverb ‘The devil is in the details’ is often attributed to the German/American architect Ludwig Mies Van Der Rohe. This is almost certainly a misattribution. The expression derives from an earlier German proverb – “Der liebe Gott steckt im detail”, which translates as ‘God is in the detail’. Mies Van Der Rohe is also associated with this earlier form but, although he may have used it, there’s no evidence that he was the first to do so.
In the migration of the phrases an ‘s’ was added – the earlier form is usually ‘God is in the detail’; the later form is more commonly ‘the devil is in the details’.
‘The devil is in the details’ only came into common use in the 1990s (Van Der Rohe died in 1969) and the earliest citation of it that I’ve found in print is in Richard Mayne’s explanation of the workings of the European Union – The Community of Europe, 1963.
GAME DAY REPORT

All-Time vs. Devils: 39-47-5
Ottawa has strung two wins together and now face the opportunity of starting another win streak but they are facing some tough opposition in the New Jersey Devils. Both teams won their last 2 games and Ottawa has struggled to string together home victories this year so this will be a true test for this roster. Has the incremental changes by Jacques Martin made the team ready to face the New Jersey Devils?
It’s been a while since Ottawa faced a team that has some comparable statistics to them. Statistically, both teams are very close in average goals scored and allowed. Ottawa’s special teams have not magically improved but have shown marginal improvements. The penalty kill went from 32nd in the league up to 30th, so… baby steps in the right direction. Meanwhile, the Devils ranks 3rd in the power play and could make Ottawa pay if they are undisciplined.

by the numbers – jersey # 11
Jersey number 11 is synonymous with one player in Ottawa and that is long-time captain and recent Hall of Famer, Daniel Alfredsson. Alfredsson wore #11 from his debut season in 1995 until 2013. No other player wore the number after his retirement in 2014 and no one ever will as jersey #11 was retired on December 29, 2016.

Did you know three Ottawa Senators players wore jersey #11 before Daniel Alfredsson?
Mark Freer wore the jersey during the inaugural 1992-93 season. Jarmo Kekalainen wore #11 for a part of the 1993 season before changing numbers which allowed Evgeny Davydov to wear #11 from 1993 to 1995 before it was taken over by Alfredsson.
