Game Day – Sens vs. Flames – Nov 11, 2023

Movember Celebrates 20 years

In 2003, a group of men started off a new trend of growing mustaches for the month of November. Two friends, Travis Garone and Luke Slattery, met up for a beer in Melbourne, Australia, and they came up with the idea that sparked Movember. They managed to convince 30 other “Mo Bro’s” to join in the trend.

The next year, there were 480 registered participants and they expanded the cause by raising money for prostate cancer, raising $40,851.

Now, 20 years later, it’s a global phenomenon that raises funds for over 1,320 men’s health projects around the world for mental health, suicide prevention and prostate cancer.

Before all of this, the Calgary Flames legend Lanny MacDonald has sported what has been known arguably as one of the greatest mustaches to ever exist.

Vancouver was expected to start Demko in nets against the Senators but changed things up by having the backup DeSmith in net against Anton Forsberg. Meanwhile Ottawa has some help on the D-line with the return of Artem Zub. This was Mathieu Joseph‘s 300th NHL game and Matthew Highmore’s 1st NHL game, replacing Zack MacEwen.

Quick Sens Highlights:

In 1992, the Ogden Corporation, a giant U.S. entertainment company, guaranteed up to $120 million in loans to finance the building of the Palladium.  The Palladium, home of the Ottawa Senators, officially opened in January 1996 before being renamed the Corel Centre until 2006.  It was then renamed the Scotiabank Place until 2013 where it changed to the Canadian Tire Centre.
