Senators vs. Kraken

Last season: The Senators faced the Seattle Kraken twice last season, taking the first win on December 2nd with a 2-0 home ice shutdown. Kraken had a measure of revenge on January 4th, beating the Senators 4-1 in Seattle to even up the series.

Game Day: The Senators faced the New York Rangers yesterday in a 2-1 loss, while Kraken lost to Toronto on Halloween by a score of 4-1. It’s a back-to-back gain for the Senators who are looking to turn once again to a winning record.

PLAYER PROFILE – Tim Stützle

Drafted 3rd overall by the Ottawa Senators in 2020, the Viersen, German native is playing in his 5th NHL season with the Ottawa Senators. Stützle achieved career high goals during the 2022-23 season when he scored 39 goals. Last year, he broke his record for assists, recording 52 assists.

  • Recorded his 150th assist on March 16, 2024 @ New York Islanders
  • Achieved his 250th point on October 12, 2024 @ Montreal

ON THIS DAY IN SENS HISTORY

🎂 Happy Birthday Matt Cullen 🥳
Matt is celebrating his 48th birthday!  The Virginia, Minnesota native was drafted in 1996 in the 2nd round – 35th overall by Anaheim.   He was traded from the Carolina Hurricanes to the Ottawa Senators during the 2009-10 season, playing 21 games for the Senators recording 4 goals and 4 assists.

🎂 Happy Birthday Jason Smith 🥳
Jason is celebrating his 51st birthday!  The Calgary, Alberta native was drafted in 1992 in the 1st round – 18th overall by the New Jersey Devils.  Smith ended his NHL career with the Ottawa Senators during the 2008-09 season, playing 63 games and recording 1 goal.

In 2014, Anton Forsberg made his NHL appearance as the starting goalie with Columbus Blue Jackets against the New Jersey Devils.  Full disclosure: this occurred on November 1st but with a light list of memorable events yesterday we chose to include this milestone in today’s post.

In 2016, Mike Condon was acquired from Pittsburgh in exchange for a 5th-round pick in the 2017 NHL Entry (Jan Drozg).    Condon played three seasons for the Senators, starting in the 2016-17 season, playing 40 games, recording 19 wins and a .914 SV%.  He played 31 games during the 2017-18 season, recording only 5 wins and played 2 games in the 2018-19 season.  He was traded to Tampa Bay along with a 6th-round pick in the 2020 NHL Draft for Ryan Callahan and a 5th-round pick on July 30, 2019.

In 2021, Chris Tierney played in the 500th game of his NHL career at Minnesota in a 5-4 OT loss.  Tierney played 4 seasons with the Senators starting in the 2018-19 season until the 2021-22 season.  Upon leaving the Senators, he would play with the Florida Panthers, Montreal Canadiens and the New Jersey Devils.
