the youngest great One

In 1978, Wayne Gretzky turned professional, signing with the Indianapolis Racers of the World Hockey Association (WHA). At age 17, he was the youngest athlete playing any major league sport in North America. However, he only played eight games with the Racers before being traded to the Edmonton Oilers (then part of the WHA). By the start of his second season with the Oilers, the WHA had merged with the National Hockey League (NHL) and it was not long before he took the league by storm.

GAME DAY REPORT

All-Time vs. Oilers: 23-29-4

Ottawa is struggling on the west coast trip, very reminiscent of the pre-holiday road trip when the Senators went 0-5. Things don’t get easier for the Senators as after two disappointing losses, they face the red-hot Edmonton Oilers who have a 5 game winning streak.

The Senators, who used to sit on top of the NHL in goals scored on average have fallen recently and are facing an Oilers team that sits 3rd in the NHL in scoring. Sens special teams continue to struggle, going 0-4 in Seattle, the Senators can’t seem to activate the powerplay to capitalize on its chances while the Oilers sit in 6th place on the power play.
