Dr. Donald Chow inducted into the Ottawa Senators Ring of Honour

On Sunday March 24th the Senators inducted Dr. Donald Chow into the Ring of Honour to join Bryan Murray and Wade Redden.

Dr. Chow has been a team physician with the Senators since 1992 and served as the team’s Head Physician from 2002 to 2017.

“Dr. Chow has been best in class in his field for more than 20 years,” said Michael Andlauer. “The hockey club has benefited from having access to his remarkable skills in more ways that we could ever detail. Our players being treated by one of the best doctors in the world has been an incredible gift to this franchise and we’re proud to honour his remarkable legacy by inducting him into the Ring of Honour.”

GAME DAY REPORT

Senators vs. Panthers

Last time: The Senators lost to Florida during Hockey Fights Cancer Night on November 27th, being shutout 5-0 by the Panthers. The game was rough, in fact it set a record for the most penalty minutes in a game for the season. Their second encounter, on February 20th, proved to be a closer game with Ottawa rallying back in the game but failing in overtime 3-2.

Game Day: The Senators are down 0-2 in the series but not to fret, they get to face Florida twice before the season ends. They face them tonight and once again on April 9th, providing two chances to even up the series. The Panthers have lost two games and will be eager to claim a victory while Ottawa is coming off their first lost in 5 games.

Senators end 5-game winning streak with loss to Wild 3-2

Senators try to rally from behind in the 3rd period but falter to the Minnesota Wild, ending their 5-game winning streak. Drake Batherson continues his points streak and Ottawa scored 2 power-play goals.

Quick Sens Highlights:

  • Minnesota opened up the scoring 12:32 in the 1st period to take the lead. They extended the lead 0:49 second in the 2nd period, going up 2-0.
  • Drake Batherson scored his 27th of the season, a power-play goal, assisted by Brady Tkachuk and Jakob Chychrun, 7:43 into the 2nd period to cut the lead in half 2-1.
  • Ottawa tied the game, 2:42 into the 3rd period when Jakob Chychrun scored his 13th of the season, a power-play goal, assisted by Drake Batherson and Tim Stutzle.
  • The Wild scored the game-winner, 13:04 into the 3rd period, to win the game 3-2.
  • Joonas Korpisalo took the loss, making 17 saves on 20 shots for 3.00 GA and a .850 SV%.

Season Highlights

In July 2006, the Senators experienced some key departures in Zdeno Chara (signed with Boston Bruins), Brian Pothier (signed with Capitals) and Dominik Hasek (left for Detroit). Martin Gerber was obtained to fill the void left by Hasek and Ottawa acquired Joe Corvo. They also traded Martin Havlat and Bryan Smolinski to the Chicago Blackhawks for Tom Preissing, Josh Hennessy, Michal Barinka and 2nd round draft pick.

The Ottawa Senators celebrated their 15th year anniversary with a trip to the Stanley Cup Finals, losing to the Anaheim Ducks.
