Last Time: The Senators battled the Pittsburgh Penguins on December 14th, winning 3-2 in overtime, taking the first game in the series. After today’s match-up they will face Pittsburgh once again on March 30th, for the final game in the series.

Game Day: The Senators have been struggling to score goals as they prepare for an afternoon matchup against the Penguins. Both teams are in the wildcard hunt together and are evenly matched up.

The Ottawa Senators record for the 2013-14 season was 37-31-14, which resulted in 88 points for 5th place in the Atlantic division and 21st overall in the NHL.

Season Highlights

The National Hockey League re-organized it’s division for the 2013-14 season, placing Ottawa in the Atlantic division along with Boston, Buffalo, Detroit, Florida, Montreal, Tampa Bay and Toronto.

This was the first season since the 1993-94 season without long-time captain and Senators legend Daniel Alfredsson.

Senators made a blockbuster trading with the Anaheim Ducks, picking up Bobby Ryan in exchanged for Jakob Silverberg, Stefan Noesen and a 2014 1st-round draft pick.

Assistant General Manager Tim Murray left the Ottawa Senators in January to become General Manager of the Buffalo Sabres. Pierre Dorion and Randy Lee became joint assistant general manager to Bryan Murray. Bryan Murray’s contract was extended for two years.

The Senators played the 2014 Heritage Classic game against the Vancouver Canucks. The Senators unveiled a white version of their heritage third jersey for the game.

2013-14 Senators Highlights

  • Most games played: Zack Smith, Milan Michalek, Kyle Turris and Erik Karlsson all played 82 games.
  • Top Scorer: Kyle Turris scored 26 goals.
  • Top Helper: Erik Karlsson registered 54 assists.
  • Top Producer: Erik Karlsson recorded 74 points in 82 games.
  • Top PIM: Chris Neil had 211 penalty minutes in 76 games.
  • Top Goalie: Craig Anderson played 53 games for 3,000 mins with a result of 25-16-8 including 4 shutouts with a 3.00 GAA and .911 SV%.

FUTURE SENS – Angus Crookshank

The North Vancouver, British Columbia native was drafted in the 5th round – 126th overall by the Senators in the 2018 NHL Entry Draft. Angus Crookshank played the majority of his career with the Belleville Senators scoring 26 goals and 21 assists in 71 games during the 2022-23 season and scoring 24 goals and 22 assists in 50 games last season.

He was called up to the Ottawa Senators last year, making his debut on December 17th against the Vegas Golden Knights. He scored his first NHL goal in the following game, on December 18th in Arizona and collected his first assist shortly thereafter on December 29th vs. New Jersey.

He ended up playing 13 games with the big club collecting 2 goals and 1 assist for 3 points before returning to the Belleville affiliate club.
