Season Highlights
In August, first-round pick Brady Tkachuk decided to forgo additional seasons in university to turn professional with the Ottawa Senators, signing a 3-year entry level agreement. The Senators hired former player Chris Kelly as a development coach, joining Shean Donovan.
Erik Karlsson refused to sign a contract extension with the Senators fueling speculation of a trade which ocurred on September 13th with the San Jose Sharks. The Senators received Dylan DeMelo and Chris Tierney along with prospects Rudolfs Balcers and Josh Norris along with a 1st and 2nd round pick for Erik Karlsson.
The Senators failed to qualify for the playoffs resulting in the trading of major assets including Mark Stone, Matt Duchene and Ryan Dzingel along with the firing of head coach Guy Boucher who was replaced with Marc Crawford on an interim basis.
