The National Hockey League today announced that the Ottawa Senators will forfeit a 1st-round draft pick for their role in the July 2021 trade of player Evgenii Dadonov to the Vegas Golden Knights and the subsequent, invalidated March 2022, Dadonov trade between the Golden Knights and the Anaheim Ducks.
Ottawa will forfeit its 1st-round draft pick in either the 2024, 2025 or 2026 Drafts. The determination as to which pick will be forfeited will be made by Ottawa within 24 hours of the conclusion of the Draft Lottery for that year. The League will have no further comment on the matter.

Following the events of today’s NHL punishment, the Ottawa Senators accepted the resignation of Pierre Dorion. Pierre took over as the General Manager, 8 years ago (2016–2023). Owner Michael Andlauer had a week to review the documents pertaining to the investigation of Evgenii Dadonov’s 2022 trade, and ultimately, he and Dorion decided to part ways.
The Senators were 221-257-59 under Dorion and had a 13-point improvement last season (86 points) from 2021-22 (73 points).
